Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the current situation and issues of welfare technology use in the long-term care service provision. The focus group interview was conducted to long-term care providers in home or community based settings as well as institutions by selecting cases based on a recommendation of a key informant. The main results of the qualitative analysis were as follows. First, the level and the degree of technology use in the process of long-term care service have been both relatively low. Second, there existed the possibility of trade-off between interests of care provider (eg. convenience) and those of care receiver (eg. quality of service) in using welfare technology in the long-term care setting. Third, care providers have played the major role as the user of welfare technology, while care receivers have tended to be systematically excluded in the process of selecting and using the welfare technology device. Finally, this study concluded that welfare technology has not been fully integrated in the process of long-term care service provision in South Korea.
